Medications
Stop 7 days prior to your procedure all Aspirin,and Anti-inflammatory medications (naproxen, ibuprofen, aleve, motrin, anaprox, voltaren, mobic, lodine, feldene). If you take blood thinners like coumadin, warfarin, plavix; you must stop for at least 5 days prior to the procedure. Always check with your physician prescribing the blood thinner as to the safety of discontinuing it for that length of time. On occasion the risk of discontinuing the medication outweighs the benefits of performing the injection.
Eating and Drinking
Please have nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before. You may take your regular prescription medications with sips of water on the day of the procedure.
Clothing
Dress in comfortable clothing. Gowns and lockers will be provided at the Surgery Center for your convenience.
Travel to the Surgery Center
If you are receiving sedation with your procedure, you must have a driver. We cannot send you home in a taxicab unless you are accompanied by a responsible adult. |
Checking-in
Upon entering the Center, you will be escorted to the pre-operative holding area, where you will change into a hospital gown. An IV will be started prior to the procedure. An anesthesiologist will meet with you prior to administering sedation.
Operating Room
You will be escorted into the operating room for positioning onto your back or stomach. EKG, blood pressure, and oxygen monitors will be placed prior to commencing with sedation.The site of needle placement will be cleansed and prepped prior to your injection to prevent infection. Once the injection is completed you will return to the recovery room for continued monitoring and preparation for discharge home. |
